Got up to the HWY. 2 bridge at about 5:40am with my brother. There was one other guy already there waiting. As soon as we pulled up he got out of his suburban and started hiking up river. We hiked up to the May Creek Hole and and were the first ones there at about 6:10am. We passed the guy that we saw when we pulled into the HWY. 2 bridge parking area he was at the Slug Hole.
While we waited for light to fish, there were about 8-10 other guys that showed up from upriver at the hatchery. I was using a float and jig on my noodle rod and a corky, yarn and sand shrimp on my drift rod. I also tried a pink worm. We only saw one steelhead caught there just after first light on a float and jig. We headed downstream at about 8:30-9:00am. We saw a kid with his dad reeling in a dark chum at the top of the Slug Hole. There was also one steelhead on the bank as we passed. We stopped at the HWY. 2 Riffle before we left and touched nothing there either. Also fished below the bridge at the first corner. Both steelhead that we saw were bright hatchery brats of only about 6 lbs.
BTW, I saw no silvers or chums spawning in the shallows like I do every year in this section at this time. I only saw one nasty old moldy king lazily swimming in the shallows at the May Creek Hole. Weird for this time of year, usually there are a ton of silvers and chums up in the shallows spawning.
Summary: Don't waste your time unless you have time to waste. Wait until the water colors up in December and then hit it. Right now lot's and lot's and lot's of people for very, very few fish. Hunt for fish in the Sky until the rain comes again.
