Went to the upper Cle Elum River this weekend and it was the worst fishing that I have ever had there. My friends and I fish near Lake Tuquala and all we caught and saw were little 2" bows. Usually this time of year the average fish is 6-12" with a few larger ones in this stretch.

We were fishing with 1/16 oz rooster tails like we usually do here. I was using a metallic red one and my friends were using various other colors. I had the most luck, as I was the most experienced fisherman in the group.

I can't figure out what the deal was. I usually even spot some decent fish in the clear water, but the biggest I saw and had fallow was about 6". Maybe it was something with the bad winter we had and there was winter kill. Who knows?

I will be back there though because if nothing else the scenery is worth the drive.

Remember it is selective gear rules.

The scenery is great here, but it is getting irritating how many people go all the way to the lake now adays. I remember not more than 5-10 years ago when you could have pretty much the whole place to yourself because it is like a 10 mile drive up the gravel road. I guess that is what happens when word gets out.

I don't mind sharing the woods with others, I just don't want to be next door nieghbors with them. That is why I go camping, to get away from people. Some idiots even lit a huge ant hill on fire up there. By the time my friends came upon the ant hill it was nothing more than a smoldering clump of pine needles with beer bottles thrown into the center and tons of ants going crazy. We were going to drive the 10 miles back to Salmon La Sac to let the rangers know that they should get one of thier water trucks up there to put the rest of it out but as we were walking back to camp a water truck pulled into where the ant hill was. I tried to put out the rest of the smoldering clump but all I had was a couple of empty beer cans, and the ants didn't like my help to much. I hate stupid people that can't respect the outdoors, if you don't like it and want to ruin it stay home.

I was hiking on the pct around the same time you were at the river, What I discovered is that a clear plastic boober and a dry fly that matches the hatch was working way better then any other lure that I had. Most of the fish were still the size of the one you pictured but I caught a few 9-11 inch bows.
