Stopped off at one of my favorite spots for the river this morning. Yesterday was warm and sunny so I figured that the river would be somewhat clearer and maybe lower. It was clear and the flow was just a tad lower than when we had the rains. Casted out a Dick Nite with yellow with green spots and white back. First cast, BAM, squawfish. Big and fat. Didn't get anything after that so I decided to fish from a fallen tree that stuck out of the water to try and see if I could get my spoon over some fish that were rolling.
Once I got on the tree I casted out a bunch of times, nothing but some soft ticks that felt like trout. Switched to 50/50, nothing. Switched again to yellow with white back, soft ticks again. Reeled it in slow all the way to the tree and up comes a little trout from the bottom and just nails it. I didn't even have to reel in any more, just raised the rod. The coolest thing I've seen in a while. The fish was brown with spots, so I'm not sure what kind. I didn't have a camera with me, so I couldn't take a picture.
Ended with a really large FAT squawfish. He just hit my spoon and hardly fought. Huge belly on that guy.
All pinch down the barbs on all my DNs, so all fish were released easily and safely.
