Went down to the Carbon to try out my new spinning rod (Sportsman show purchase) and I was going to try out what I learned at the Sportsman show seminar on bobber and jig. Water was so clear if there were any fish they probably saw me get out of my car. The cheap bobber stops I got at Wal-Mart broke in half 2nd cast so I went back to drift fishing. Corky and yarn tipped with a prawn. Nothing. There were a few others at the area I was in but I didn’t see anything caught. I fished 1.5 hours 1:30 to 3:00.

the water is now low and clear. steelhead are shy and will not hold in low waters. try to find some deep pools forget about bath tub holes. bath tub holes are great when the water is high and fish are moving up stream. steelhead are very territorial by nature and will more likely to bite out of anger than hunger so i would use something like a spinner. my favorite spinner is the number 5 blue fox silver color. just cast upstream and let it swing down stream. sometime you get snagged so it is quite expensive, but you can make your own by purchasing components bulk on the internet. my home made ones are made from a silver colorado blade with a deep cut size 4. it attaches to a split ring and two swivels. the bottom swivel attaches to a split ring and a single 4/0 steelhead hook. fish this spinner with a float and lead sinker, three feet leader. fish it just like drift fishing.
