Finally the winter Blackmouth season is open and I get to pursue the ever elusive legal winter Chinook/Blackmouth salmon!!
Weather/water conditions have kept me working the Area 10 Appletree Cove down to President Pt and back. So far the shakers have not been plentiful as last year but if I get 1-2 on successive gear sets, then I switch to larger 4"+ lures.
So far in 6 outings I've managed to net 3 legal winter Chinook ranging from 23"-27 1/2". The largest weighed 9 1/2 LBS but none of the salmon had any bait in the stomach, so trying to figure out the bait or the size of it is ongoing!! Depths ranged from 100 FT-130 FT on the gear just off the bottom. Lures have been 3 1/2"-5", trolling with or against the tides.
