Dawg
With dismal reports from the opener, headed down Saturday morning in hopes of finding some fish. Had been way to long since I took my son fishing & this was our chance. Heard of some fish straight out deep so we headed due west after getting in the water around 8:30am. Water was calm & no wind. Happened on a boat at 220' who was pulling a nice fish so we dropped our lines...whole naked herring 120'...nothing for 6 hours..heard of fish on the radio...switched to squid/spoons..nothing. At 3 we heard of one guy catching 4 with coho killers...put them on & the bite was on! In short order we had a 10 & upper teen fish in the boat (with a couple lost & a couple drive-bys)..not sure if the "bite" came on or it was the coho killers. A little sloppy Sunday but pounded back out to 220' (about 10 miles straight out). Poles in water around 9am. Put 2 coho killers down to 120' & game on. In short order, had two upper teen fish in the boat & done at 11am. Great to spend time with my son & even greater to catch fish with poor reports....All the fish had bellies full of small to large herring...
