I had a short time to go out on Saturday so I decided to target a new species. I love catching red-tail surfperch in on the coast so I decided to hit the sound for some Striped Seaperch. I launched at Smith Cove and hit the marina. I fished around the outside without luck and then headed to the interior. I was also casting a paddletail to see if I could catch a late season Cabby. They close on 11-30. I ended up at the rip rap platform and starting drop shoting a Berkeley Sandworm in the natural color in 20-30 feet of water. I was marking clouds of fish. They turned out to be young perch with adults at the bottom of the pile. I caught about 12 before I rain out of worms. They did not want anything else I had. I tried perch grubs and small tubes without luck. They are a blast to catch on light spinning gear. I used a ML spinning rig with 6 lbs test. Mark another species off the list.
