Well decided to hit the salt for the first time in my own boat. Launched at Point defiance and trolled back and forth for a few hours along the beach area. Got one fished hooked up my two sons went with me. It was his first salmon hook up and we got it half way to the boat it made a few jumps and gone.......we decided to head over to the mouth of the Puyallup no luck there and trolled north towards got almost to Redondo beach and the weather was getting bad and young men my boys were getting worried. So we packed it up and headed back to PD. We had a few drive by's but never another hook up. We launched at 6:45 and left around 5pm. The fish checker saw 4 fish. Two of them came for three tree area is what she said.

All in all it was a fun ride back to the dock water splashing all over wiper going I was impressed with the way the boat did as I have never driven a boat in that much chop, always a first and you have to learn. We stayed steady at 23 mph seemed to be the best ride. Can't wait to do it again next time bigger DR balls my little 8 lbs are great for lakes but I see some 13lbs in my future.....lol.

Sorry that it came unhooked, always disappointing, esp. when one wants someone else to land a salmon and see that big smile. We had more then a few come unbuttoned lately. Bob R

Hey Hunter, I feel your pain. We fished Redondo three weekends straight earlier in the month. Caught one coho each of the first two saturdays, then zero the last, so I tried Shilshole twice last week. More action up north! Brought home 3 fish in two trips. Better luck next time. Glad your boat showed potential!

Thanks Guys!! I have been seeing better reports up north might need to make the trip up. I am not sure where the boat ramps are up north I will check some maps out. I hate to pay for the sling that just to much for my blood. The boat should be able to handle just about anything that I put in I just need the knowledge on how to drive in it. Something you can't learn without help or just doing it. I am going to try a quick trip mid week and see what I come up with. Thanks for the comments and encouragement.

Eddie Vine launch at the north end of Shilshole at Golden Gardens. $12 fee. Nice ramp with 4 lanes. Only drawback, no fresh water clean up faucets! Map it: 8001 Seaview Ave NW, 98117

Also wanted to mention, I use 12# DR balls with a Snubber rated at up to 12#, otherwise I would love a 13 or 15. Also don't want to stress my DR mount too much. Twelves work decent.

Eddiebishop, I am picking up a set of 13lb pancake weights, I use the scotty 370 snubbers on mine currently running 8lb now. Never seen a weight limit on snubbers what brand are you using? Do you run wire on your DR? I do only because I don't want to loose the auto stop and I run a black box when I remember its there...lol. I think the pancake weights will run a bit better then round will see. Thanks for the information on the ramp will give a look on google.

To learn everything you ever wanted to know about boating handling, safety, navigation, rules of the road, what bouys mean what, chart reading, etc etc, check out the Coast Guard Aux boating safety courses. They are inexpensive and dont take too long. I highly recomend taking one. Best thing I ever did as a boater.

They also have on-line only courses, but the in-person training is excellent.

It is definitely a learning curve. I am not use to having docks next to me when I launch.

Larry, great information thank you. I have no issues at dock or loading or unloading Toni but I can see where a person could have issues. I back up a 38 ft fifthwheel so a 19 ft boat is a piece of cake for me lol. My issues are waves and rough water, how to cross larger wave action. What way to point to bow, I had a ton of water coming over the bow splashing the windshield. I might have to take a course that Larry recommended just so I have piece of mind.

Thanks guys and gals!!

Hey Hunter, These snubbers are Gold Star/Silver Horde brand available at Sportco/Outdoor Emporium. Yes, I use the 200' stainless steel wire which come standard on Scotty DRs. I've never tried pancake weights so let us know how you like them. Thanks!

Fished Dolphin, Beal, Tree Tree, and the center channel over the weekend without much success. Overall, having about the same results as eddiebishop. Also hearing A10 is providing some good success. I'll be motoring further north next outing this week. The Don Armeni ramp in West Seattle (1222 Harbor Ave SW, 98116) is another option. Same as Shilshole @ $12. Four lanes total & good docks. Usually out of the wind. Parking can be an sometimes be an issue & no wash down. 12# Weights w/ snubbers & SS wire. Tight Lines!

eddiebishop, well I picked up some 12lb cannon round finned balls. After some research on the pancakes getting tangled up under the boats on turns and bad current I felt better safe then sorry so. Anyway I can troll 3.5 no problem with one rod when you double stack a bit more blow back then I want. I might look for some 15lb cannons and pick up one and try that. I went out a couple more times on 11 and only picked up a few shakers at three tree. This was the only area we had hook ups but came home empty. We are going to try the shilshole ramp on Sunday morning and try our luck up north. If you see me out be sure to say Hello. Its a red weldcraft with a grey top, cannon dr on each side. Hope we do better up there. I did pick up some Ace Hi to try and will bring some hearing as well. Thanks for the all the help.
