Hit the shore for my very first time ever. Spent about 2 and a half hours at the fort casey Beach with pink rotators. On my second cast I had about a 4 pound hatchery coho slam my lure. Landed and bonked that. I thought it was going to be great with a fish that quick. That ended up being it for the day though. Saw 1 other jumper but didn't see another fish caught the whole time we were there. For my very first time off the beach though I was happy.

Fishing Magician... Congratulations! My favorite place to fish. Best times are 2hrs. before and after high tide.... tide does matter here. Also, best color Rotator for Coho is chartreuse... will out-fish all other colors, hands down. I like to put a pink hootchie under the Rotator. If you want to carry a second pole to the beach, have one rigged with a float and a mooching leader... when you see a strong current develop out front, put on a plug-cut herring and cast out into the current... don't have to cast far... have had Coho smack the herring five feet from the beach...

Thanks for the advice Stansjoy! I was there about 2 hours after low tide. I would like to try a herring under a bobber too. I saw a few guys using that rig. I will also try those chartreuse rotators a try. I had a pink hoochie underneath the pink rotator too. Does live herring work better? I have heard possession point bait cmpany has live ones. One more question. How far do you have your herring under your float? I will be back there next Monday so I will try those techniques then. Thank you!

A rotator is is a lead jig and it is pretty similar to a buzz bomb. Rotators are are little bit flatter though. But I am not sure who makes them.

Fishing Magician... I don't know of a way to transport live herring from Possession Point up island! Perhaps a container with an aerator! I am sure they would work at Fort Casey, but a lot of trouble! I have had such great luck with the plug-cuts. Experiment a bit with the bevel on the cut... need a fast spin to attract the Coho. Also, I like to dye my herring overnight in the refrigerator in a zip-lock bag (several commercial liquid dyes available... my go-to is blue, but chartreuse works well too). I usually place my float at the knot of my leader (about 8') whether using a slip float or fixed. If the wind is blowing it makes casting more difficult, so I'll trim the leader to 3" or 4". Almost always the Coho will hit the herring well within eyesight... have had them pound the herring when the float was at my rod tip, so don't give up... stay alert until you have the bait out of the water.
Fish-on... Rotator was first called a Wannabe... like Fishing Magician, don't know who makes them. Have purchased mine from Holiday Sports in Burlington, and Ted's Sportscenter in Lynnwood. The Rotator acts much more like a spoon than the Buzz Bomb on the retrieve... don't jerk it in as violently as you would the Buzz Bomb... a smooth pull and release works better, the Rotator flutters down, causing a vibration that attracts the Coho... awesome when they smash it... sometimes almost rips your arm off!! Great adrenaline rush!

I buy my rotators here: http://www.deepstinger.com/rotators.html
I prefer the 2" rotators because my rod casts a 3/4 oz rotator best... the 2.5" rotators weigh 1.5 oz . I also switch out the hook and use a sickle hook which I think keeps the fish on a little better.
