So work has been absolutely crazy busy but actually saw an opportunity to get in a little fishing before work today so with the weather, tides and all the stars lining up in place, got the Tin cup ready last night for a solo trip to try and get my mojo back! With crabbing being closed decided just to launch out of Redondo and work through the 8:30 am tide change. Put her in at daybreak and just headed straight out from the launch and started marking fish and hearing jumper right away! This could be promising! Put on the old white with red spotted hootchie with a herring strip and green glow flasher and started my troll south to troll with the tide. Marks everywhere but kept the bait up high as I have experienced here before that sometimes the kings hang in the upper column of water in early morning.
After a couple hours of watching people land pinks, decided to give up on kings and go after the pinks so switched out to the set up that netted my wife her first pink in many years! Got the line down at 45 feet and had worked through some eel grass so popped the line off the clip to bring it up and check it when WHAM!!! something grabbed my little hootchie and ran with it! After peeling off about 50 feet of line it went straight down so knew I had a king on! Yea baby!! Now I thing the leader I had on the little pink hootchie was only 12 or 15 pound test so worked it up very carefully letting her make runs when ever she felt like it~ after about a 10 minute battle saw color and realized it was a pretty good sized king and was just hoping it was missing a fin! After successfully gliding it into the net, leaned over and checked and YES! it was a hatchery hen so hoisted her into the boat and my long lasting king skunk was off the boat!! Bonked her and set back out to try for another or a couple pinks and saw some pretty decent marks at 65 feet so dropped it down and bounce- bounce looked like I had got a pink so popped the clip and reeled it in but when in the net, realized it was a fin clipped chinook so grabbed my yard stick and stuck it in the water in the net and was only 20 inches to back it went to make some more baby kings hopefully one day!
Was back to the launch at 9:30 and was able to get home, cleaned up and back to work at 11 am for a another full day of selling food! See you on the water!
