So this will be a 3 derby report but the first 2 there was not much to report so just put it all in one~

August 1st- Saturday South sound derby:
So my buddy Craig who had missed both the Chelan get together and also the Lake WA cutthroat derby finally was able to make it here for the first of 3 derby's I had entered for the next 3 Saturdays. We launched out of Pt. Defiance at 4am on a picture perfect day and my plan was to head straight up to Beale point and work our way south with the incoming tide. Long story short, worked our way all the way to Pt. Robinson and then over to Redondo with nary a bite until derby ended at 1pm. Still was fun to spend the day with my old high school buddy and we had fun.

August 8th- Saturday Gig Harbor derby:
Invited Danny and Alycia (schu7498) to join me to hopefully end my dry spell on the salt with something flopping around in a net! We launched out of Pt. Defiance at 4am and this time lucked out and got the last parking spot in the lower lot! But that would be the last of my luck as this time my plan was to head straight up to familiar waters ( Redondo ) and work through both tide changes. Made our way in the dark across the bay and suddenly hit a huge kelp bed that had looked like a tide rip! My main motor froze up and died but fortunately no damage or sheared pins and soon we were able start back up and get to Dumas bay to start our day at daybreak.
Again to make a long story short, same results as the previous derby with only a flounder but marked many schools but could just not get them interested. Heard was pretty slow all over with the huge drop in weather pressure but once again was a fun day spending with good friends and good food!

August 15th- Saturday South sound derby all areas 11-12-13:
Ok so my wife who is not much of a fisher person asked if she could join me on this one because it also coincided with our annual church salmon derby so we double dipped entering the south sound one too! Now after my last 2 choices of areas to fish not panning out, decided to stay close this time and work the Owens beach area through the early morning tide change and then run up to girl scout camp around 9:30. Did not see any fish caught and heard of a few pinks landed here and there so looked like it was going to be another one of those days. Called brother Ron Brown who was already at the camp and said he had lost 2 so sounded better then where we were at so motored over there. Just as we got there saw him with a double on directly in front of the girl scout camp dock so had some hope!! Finally after what seemed weeks (oh yea, it had been!) saw one rod starting to dance to popped it off the clip and handed over to my wife. She worked the feisty little guy into the waiting net and the spell was broken! We finished at 12 noon and headed in to weigh in her fish and turns out took 4th place in the church derby so was another tough day on the sound for some!
Now the only pictures I got from all 3 were ones taken of my wife in various stages of the day as it wore on and you have to understand her humor to really get the jist of the sequence of photos and I will try see comments with each one! haha

See you on the water!
