This report for 8/30, 8/31 & 9/1. To say that the coho fishing was hot would be an understatement. Lots of boats out and it appeared that limits for everyone was the rule. We caught upwards of 20 fish every day to get to our limits of hatchery fish. Native fish outnumbered the hatchery fish 3 to 1. We fished hootchies and irish creme tailwagger spoons tipped with cured herring strips 50 feet down on the downriggers. We fished everywhere from 275 feet of water to 525 feet and caught fish everywhere. Not sure if the fish moved deeper later in the day as we were tagged out by 9:00 AM each day. On Sunday we decided to try for sea bass over by the caves after limiting on coho. On the 1st drop use a 2 oz jig a huge king hit the jig like a runaway truck. Great fight. Tried to quick release but no go as the fish was hooked good. Fish released unharmed from the side of the boat. Fish was at least 25 lbs and was fin clipped. Shame I could not have hooked this one back in July when it would have been a keeper. I would suspect that this fantastic coho fishery will go on for a couple more weeks possibly more.
