Dad had some time to fish today, so I got him up and headed out on a beautiful morning to start testing a few new features to the boat before fishing on Vancouver Island this summer, including the brand new Chirp Sonar depth sounder from lowrance... Man can than thing read water and the bottom!
Anyways launched from Bellingham at first light, got to our spot. Way too lazy to catch live bait so we mooched herring... First pass 34 incher. Second pass 35.75 inch ling. Literally couldnt be any bigger but I streched her and made sure it wasnt over. Done by 8am, went over to some kelp, jigged a limit of kelp greenling for some extra meat and back home by noon. Good day for later in the season when the lings are usually picked over pretty good.

And another report confirming that I need a boat...haven't caught any from shore, pier or jetty, yet. Good work!

Great fish FFreak. I don't want to ask you personal hot spot, but when you said you launched out of Bellingham, I was curious if you ever launch/fish out of Larabe State Park launch. (sp?) I was up there a few months ago, and couldn't believe how fishy the shoreline/rock structures looked. Coming from Seattle's beaches with no kelp beds, or rock walls to speak of.

Personally I have not fished right in that area Quad, however I know up our way offers great greenling fishing, and anywhere with kelp usually holds tons of em. They are a blast to catch and fry up VERY well! The lings themelves are found out in the islands farther!
