Saturday was pretty miserable out at Westport. Thank goodness I at least had some good friends out there with me. Rain was blowing sideways at 20mph for most of the morning. Afternoon was on and off rain...but it was one heck of a wet day overall.
Started at Grayland for razors. I was up to 10 in the first 30-45 minutes. I came across a bed where I nailed 6 of them in a row. But other than that, you really had to work to find them. They weren't really showing at all. You had to look for the littlest bit of sand that looked "off" and go for it. Of course a couple were pretty obvious, but that was more the exception rather than the rule. I came up 3 clams short of the limit at 12. I had 10 with an hour left to dig and managed to find 2 more, but I just couldn't get those last 3. My friends stayed overnight and they said Sunday was the same. Not really showing at all.
After clamming on Saturday, we headed over to the marina to do some crabbing. Plenty of small ones in there, but no keepers all day long...nobody was really pulling keepers on Saturday. There was a crab festival that weekend, and the fishing boats would go by and toss out some keepers as freebies, but none of them hardly made it over to the boat slips. I think they were following the fishing boats that were dumping fish remains overboard. At the end of the day I did pull up one dungie that would have been big enough, but it was a soft shell so I had to toss it back.
We fished a bit in the afternoon over on the finger jetties by the marina. One buddy got a couple greenlings, and my other friend got a sea bass. I had something decent grab on, and got it close enough to see that it was either a good size cab, or a borderline keeper ling. I'm taking this opportunity to flip the bird to Okuma. My reel failed on me again after having been sent in to Okuma 3 times now, and it failed with the exact same issues that I sent it in for (gears stripping). I have told Okuma to destroy this thing and either send me something new out of the box, or just refund me...but that's a whole other saga. Ugh....it was a nice fish whatever it was. I had plenty of other bites (clam necks and prawns), but didn't seal the deal on any fish for the day. Bummer.
If the forecast is decent for this Sunday, I'm going to try and get back out there and head a bit south to fish the beach for red tail perch. Just gonna focus on them and then probably crab in the marina again.
