I had plans to spend my birthday fishing lake Ki one more time before it closed for the season, but then I got a FB message from a friend that I haven't seen in probably 15 years or more asking if I wanted to join him, his wife and step son for a day of crabbing. No way I could turn down an offer like that so we headed up to Anacortes to soak a few pots.

We had all six pots in the water around 10:30 and when the first pull yielded only 4 keepers, we looked at each other with that same, "I hope it's not gonna be this way all day" look. But as the high tide came and went, not only did the number of crab in each pot increase, but so did the number of keepers.

The light fog and low clouds eventually gave way to sunny skies and we managed to get our 4 limits by 3:30. We started out using chicken parts because the salmon carcases were frozen in a solid chunk, but once we got them to thaw out, they out performed the chicken by a factor that I can't even begin to calculate. The salmon was definitely the ticket!

It was great to get reconnected and to catch up with what each others kids, grand kids, etc. were doing and to see that we still had what it takes to be the fisher/gatherers that we still picture ourselves to be. Plans are in the works to hit the next Razor Clam dig next month. Should make for another great day in this beautiful state that we call home.
