The hubby & I, 3 teenagers & 2 dogs took off for the beach Friday & stayed the weekend for the big dig. We made it in time Friday night to hit the beach with head lamps & bring in 5 limits! Saturday I was able to talk everyone into playing on the beach with the dogs while Tim & I tried surf fishing for the first time. We watched a few of the guys that were already out there for a while before we felt confident enough to get out there & not look like morons. The first bit was pretty pathetic while we both got the feel of the surf & figured out when not to cast out. After a while we both we getting it down & the hook ups were fairly consistent. I even managed to pull 2 good sized crab in lol I wasn't sure if it was legal to keep them so back they went. We packed it up around 1:30 with 8 perch between us. Back to the beach about 5 to start the hunt for clams. Left just after 7 with limits for everyone! We had to leave by 3 today which meant no more clam digging but we did put in a few more hours fishing. It wasn't as consistent as Saturday but still fun
We came home with 150 clams & 14 surf perch! We were all doing the woohoo happy dance until we realized we had 150 clams to clean.... 4 hours later 28 perch fillets & ALLLLLLL those clams are finally cleaned & in the freezer.
