My friend, Joey, and I decided to trade a day of crowds on the river for a day of crowds at the beach and go on our first Razor Clam dig of the Fall/Winter season. We left a foggy Seattle around 10:00 a.m. and were pleasantly surprised to break into bright sunshine around McLeary, and even more surprised when it stayed like that all the way out to the coast!
After a late lunch of Mexican food, we hit the beach around 5:00, which was a bit early, but I was hoping to be limited out before it got dark. We spent the first half hour following the tide out and then it was like someone flipped a switch and "BAM!", there were clams showing everywhere! We were able to get our limits (15 clams each) in area that was only about 60 feet in diameter, and we were done around 6:00. We didn't get a chance to do some crabbing like I had wanted to, but it was still a successful and relaxing day.
Of course Joey can't be within 100 miles of a casino without stopping by for "just 20 minutes", so we did that before making the long drive back to Seattle. After dropping her off at her place I finally made it home around 11:00.
