Made a solo trip to Westport this weekend. Heard they were getting kings in 250' of water out there. Put in Saturday at 7am and headed out to cross the bar in dense fog. Got to the bar and had to turn around because it was so damn rough! Went back to port and waited till 9:30 for the slack. Made it out to 200' and put out the downrigger to 150'. Trolled a cut-plug for half an hour and WHAM! fish on! I got it to the boat and got a look at it. Holy crap this was my biggest king of the year, 25-30#!! It made 3 strong runs all the while I'm trying to get the ball up from 150'. Well, on its last run it wrapped around the cable and broke my leader off 2' above the hook. Bummer. Trolled some more with the DR with no more hits. I switched to the delta diver and a cut-plug. I limited on fat feisty silvers Sat. and Sun. the biggest was 12#. Water was so flat on Sunday i made it out 20 miles to the 300' line and trolled with the charter fleet. The fish checker at the ramp said he'd only checked 2 kings all weekend. Released a bunch of nice wild silvers too.
