Fished last weekend in the San Juans. Focused our efforts on kings Saturday, inside, and only landed a "prince" about 4-5 pounds. I let it go. Other than that, couldn't keep the dogfish off my gear. So we decided to burn the gas and head outside of San Juan. Sunday morning we caught likely 20+ fish, a good mix of sockeye and humpies. Ended up bringing home 2 sockeye and 6 pinks, and 6 rock crab. Great time fishing the light gear, but sadly no kings for us :( I will mention though that when we arrived in the morning, it was us and one other boat. We saw a guy fight a king for about 30 minutes solid and sure enough, it ended up being his dream fish of 45 pounds. Yes, we saw it netted, heard the screams, and this guy didn't look like he wanted to tell fish tales. This was a fish of a lifetime! But I'm pretty sure his fish ate all the other kings we were supposed to catch... Regardless, fishing is pretty hot outside of San Juan - very fun to go out and get some good action.
