I met my buddy from Longview with his boat at Potlatch state park boat ramp at 7:30 and there were only a few trailers in the parking lot so was encouraged but while we were getting ready about 4 boats arrived with the nets and preceeded to launch ahead of us. I guess they figure they have the right to do that but anyway we finally got it and headed south to the tribal hatchery which no one fishes and I have always done well there. We arrived by ourselves and got into schools of chum milling around the mouth of the hatchery and got our arms worn out pulling in these beasts! unfortunately most were males and I didn't need anymore salmon for the smoker and the only decent females weren't hooked right.

by 10am people showed up at the hatchery and yelled at us that we needed to be 1000 feet from the hatchery to fish. Now I don't understand that since at Hoodsport they let fish right in front of it. We moved out but didn't have any luck so decided to head up to 'the zone'.. Big mistake! 1st of all my friends battery was dead so had to run up there on his kicker and then the rain started coming down pretty hard and by the time we got there, there was no room for us to find a spot to fish. we anhored away from the crowd and started casting to shore just to get yelled at by guys on the bank and dirty looks from other boats so pulled anchor and make the long slow run back to the launch.

this will be my last trip there as there are just as many chum around Chico creek and much friendlier people~ I may launch my boat this Wedensday in Silverdale and try herring under a float off out in the open water off of Chico creek

Salmonbarry,
Two things, the boat launch is now owned by the Tribe, although kind of a dickish move, they own the place. The other thing, check page 120 or the WDFW regs. There is a 100 yards no-fishing zone in front of the tribal hatchery, ie. Enetai Creek.

Thanks Forelle, I guess I will check the regs closer but I wonder why the lady was sceaming at us to be 1000 feet from the hatchery
