So after getting totally skunked in the Edmonds Coho derby I needed to get the mojo back so hit Redondo today with a newbie who has never caught a salmon in his life and has lived here 16 years and never been salmon fishing. We launched at 6:30 and after a little downrigger and netting 101 in the shallows we headed out with the other boats to try to get him his 1st salmon. We started up high at 35 and 45 and then as the sun hit the water I changed out one rod to a cut plug herring rig and the other with green flasher and white hootchie with herring strip. 1st fish came at 7:30 on the hootchie at 60 feet and Dan fought it in like a pro and I netted his 1st fish. As I was putting out the lines again I was about to attach the clip when I noticed a tugging on the line and I was on for my fish. As he got close ( these fish just come right in and then go ballistic) he summersaulted and threw the hook. 1 for 2 so far~ the bite slowed down until around 10am and them we banged out 2 fish in 10 minutes with 1 on the herring and one on the hootchie. Then all heck broke loose as a fierce north wind kicked up white caps and we got back to the launch in the nick of time to beat the rush back to the launch.
Should be out the tomorrow for 1 more shot at the sliver bullets before having to head over the mountains for the weekend!
see you on the water!!
