Beautiful day and had a couple hours to kill so fly rods in hand we headed to a little beach in the Deception Pass area. The tides were perfect for cutthroat fishing and we settled in working the inside tide rips. We worked our way around the point and back without any action but all was ok because it was nice to get a little exercise disguised as fishing. Getting close to time to pick up one of the kids back in Burlington a rip started forming right on a small point so figuring I had time for a few more casts. I laid a small chartreuse clouser just on the outside of the rip and started counting. On the count of six and two or three strips into my retrieve the line goes solid and I am into my backing in a blink. Then it was gone, I never got to the point where I was able to gain any line but what a thrill! A few more casts later I was into a cutt but lost it on some seaweed. At that point it was time to head back to Burlington but what a wonderful afternoon.
