This report is a little late...but.. I hadn't been out all year and finally got to looking at my boat. I bought bait on Friday and was going to go out Saturday, but got lazy, busy and honey do's. I spent all last Sunday, the 4th. working on my boat, checking wiring, downrigger mounts etc. just getting it ready to go out. I thought I would make it by 1pm or so, but it started to get closer to 3, then 4 and then the wife says, my brother has invited us for dinner, are you coming? I say no, I'm going fishing, even though I;m waffling about even going. So they all leave and I'm sitting in the driveway looking at my boat and tell my self WTF, I'm going. Head across I 90 and launch at Armeni Ramp at close to 5pm. It was hot that day and I thought the water would be glass. I pull out and head for West Point, the water is a little lumpy, so I hit the trim. It doesn't work, it works at the motor, but not at the throttle, so I plow ahead. Takes me 20 minutes. I finally start trolling at about 5.30 or so, 60' deep with a "0" flasher and a cut plug. 2.5mph or so. Nothing for about an hour, I then remember a fishing trip I had with a buddy of mine. We were at the ship wreck and he was trolling his searay at like 4mph or so, at the time I thought we're going way to fast. We got three limits that day. So I kick it up a little to about 3.2 or so, make a turn north between the yellow and green bouy and the pole starts bouncing. I like fishing by myself, so I got the Chinese fire drill going trying to find the net, stepping over an open tackle box, slipping on herring heads...
So I net the fish and it turns out to be a nice little silver, just startign to get a little hook nose, Sweeet! The next hour and a hlaf or som the rigger pops off three more times, but I only manage the one.
Oh well, I'm glad I decided to go. Sometimes you just never know.
