We headed out this morning again to try our luck at some Chinook salmon fishing. We got our boat in the water at about 5:30 AM and made the run to Jeff's Head again. In the morning I was using an ace hi-fly purple haze squid with a green flasher while my dad ran a delta 5 or 6" purple haze squid with a purple flasher. We got our first hookup at about 6:15-6:30 AM with me getting a hit. I brought the fish in and it ends up being a nice coho. On the next pass through the same place we caught the coho my dad gets a bite. The fish took some line a couple times and finally got the fish in. Finally he was able to get his king in the boat instead of losing it like he has the last couple of days. It was a nice king that my dad tried weighing on the digital scale at home with him holding the fish lol, and it was 17-18lbs, who knows how accurate it was. We tried passing through the spot again but we weren't able to get another fish, so we wait until the tide change later on and finally get hooked up. Around 11 AM my dad gets a hit on his 6" spoon he's been using and it was taking his line again, so were sure it's another good sized king on his line. Then of course what happens, my dad loses the fish, he brings it in and the hook is missing? what the heck. So I had to give him some lip again even though it wasn't really his fault. After that, another pass and I get a fish on, I bring it in and it was a pink so in it goes. On the next pass through I got another fish on, this time I bring it in and it's hooked in the gill and it was about a 20" Chinook, ouch, released the Chinook but we knew it wasn't going to survive from the gill hook and saw it on our next pass through the area floating in the water. I caught those on a army truck 3.5" coyote spoon. Then the last bite we got was from my dad, he caught a fish that was maybe 3 or 4 inches bigger than his spoon he was using. After that the bite died and we went back in with a king, coho, and pink. The 2 pics are of the fish we caught today.
