In an effort to ready for the Salmon opener Friday July 1, I bottom fished and had some friends fish in area 4 for Salmon. The friends came home with 1 king, 3 Coho, and 2 pinks not too bad for their first day out. I'm really looking forward to the opener, I've been seeing lots of fish and bait lately so it should be a good one. For me I like to hardware fish mostly, but I never leave the dock without my "cured and brined" herring. I like GREEN, flashers, spoons, flies, darts and I even color my herring green too. Pinks do like pink (go figure) and I try and save them for the latter part of the day just before I return to the dock.

The bottom fishing I did Sunday yielded a nice Cabazon (about 9 lbs) and two Black Rock fish. I released quite a few china rock fish too.

When you say you released quite a few china rockfish, is it b/c you were practicing C&R, aren't allowed to keep china rockfish, or don't enjoy eating china rockfish. I've never fished salt, so I'm not up on the reg's re: this species. The wikipedia article was interesting though and seemed to suggest they were good eats.
