Just a recap of our trip to La Push this past week. To sum in up, the salmon seem to have bypassed the area on their way south. We spoke with the fish checker on Friday afternoon and he hadn’t recorded anything but bottom fish that day and only a few salmon for the week. The reports are that if you want to get into the salmon, you need to head out with the commercial boats to 35 miles off shore. We weren’t that adventurous and decided to give it a go around the usual areas without any luck. Managed just two days of fishing as Thursday was a wash with the weather keeping the smaller, under 22’, boats in the harbor for the majority of the day. Bottom fishing proved average with a good mix of Lings, Black Rockfish and Cabezon. We crabbed the bay and picked up a bunch of undersized dungies which prompted us to forgo fishing Saturday. One pattern to note, when bottom fishing with jigs, the lings liked the darker colors and the black rockfish liked the lighter colors.
