On Friday July 16th I had the opportunity to go crabbing with 6 friends from work. We had gear in the water for a total of 3 hours and harvested 35 very nice Dungeness crab including several in the over 7" range. We were shocked to find crab in this old spot of mine that is usually fished out by the Tribal crabbers before the season opens to the public which was obviously not the case this time around. As usual, several very productive crab grounds in this area were fished hard by Tribal crabbers before the 2010 summer season opened which resulted in very few keepers but as I said, this one spot obviously was not crabbed pre-season. The kicker is we honestly threw back over 20 keepers that were soft shelled, and roughly 20+ more that were just a hair under legal size. We also noticed the females were larger than usual, many over 6 ΒΌ . Like I said, it was shocking to actually find them in such abundant numbers after a couple trips where we had to work so hard for a few limits. Great trip!
