My father's friend and wife were in town on vacation and wanted to go fishing so we took them to Owen's Beach and boy was it a good day!
We headed out there and were fishing by about 12:30.
My parents left early but me and my buddy LMBDave stayed until about 9 which is when they kicked us out.

Everyone who came today caught fish!
However, I reigned as king fisherman today with a total catch of 30 fish today, including 5 different species!

Take a look at the pictures and please correct me if I'm wrong but I believe they are as follows. (I used google to try to identify some of the fish).
Cabezon
Staghorn Sculpin
Buffalo Sculpin (The one pictured weighed 1 lb 1 oz!!
Flounder
Kelp Greenling

Oh yeah, I even caught a crab which was kind of weird!
It looked like a small spider crab almost except it was covered in hair.

We were just casting out from the shoreline and fishing off the bottom.
The bait we were using is no secret to anyone, however it seems that everytime I go fishing anywhere in the puget sound, nobody is using this bait. I'll just say it's not herring which is what I always see people using at places like ruston way.
I'll let you guys use your imagination but it works awesome!

Anyways, wish I could be more detailed but it's late and I need to get to sleep!
I wanted to share this report first!

i think anything that has a scent to it catches fish off the bottom out there. I used to use 'herring' too quite a bit. never got skunked off bottom. just have to be careful with rockfish these days.

yeah, that's partially true. but there are definitely baits that work better and have advantages compared to others. for example, i can't stand herring for many reasons. it's messy, gets stolen from your hook, falls off easy, and is just nasty to handle as bait. plus you can't really cut in small and thin because it breaks apart. i grew up as a kid using worms and it worked well but what i used that day definitely beats everything else.

Piling/pile worms? You know, those weird-looking centipede-worm combo things with pinchers in the front LOL. Thanx for the report and pics!

sand shrimp works well but it's a pain in the ass too because it falls off the hook too easily. you have to use string to keep it on..
