I live in Port Angeles, WA; Lake Leland is the closest good bass lake to my home so I fish it often. On this particular day i caught 8 bass, the largest 3 lbs. 4 oz.; most fish were caught very early on a buzz bait.
Leland holds some very nice bass. A good trip trip when the fish are biting will yield one or more fish in the 2.5 to 3.5 lb class. I like using tube baits, jigs, scumfrogs and other top waters. Usually the fish hold close to shore in heavy cover and remain shallow during the warm summer months as the oxygen level is very low below the thermo cline, about 6 ft. My largest bass ever came out of Leland on April 17, 2000 and weighed 8 lb. 1 oz. (photo attached). This is the fish Eric Monroe made reference to in his 4/29/00 report. Good luck and remember to always release the big fish!!
