Well, we hit the lake about 5 minutes after Ericksons opened. It was foggy and very calm. We fished the east side throwing spinner baits, top waters, jigs and my favorite the snag proof frog in the lilypads. Had a couple of bumps but no fish. We decided to troll our way to the back side of the island. I had a 3" fire tiger countdown rapala about 60' back of the boat just for kicks. About half way up the lake something slammed the lure enough to bend the bass rod I was using pretty good. After about 5 minutes I got the fish up near the boat and after a couple of trips back and forth under the boat he came up about a foot under the surface and spit the hook out. Neither of us got a good enough look at it but I got a top view of it and it was 14-15 inches long and Cliff got a look at him from the side and said it looked like a crappie or blue gill, I guess we will never know for sure. About the time we finally made it to the other end stopping along the way to unhook a couple of small trout and one yellow perch that hit while we were trolling, the wind started to pick up pretty good so we trolled our way back to the dock with one stop along the way for Cliff to land a 16" trout. Didn't see anyone doing all that good. Headed back first weekend of August.
