WOW! What an incredible day of fishing. Aaron and I took a charter trip with Capt Tom of ExcelFishingCharters.com. Tom took us over to Duncan Rocks where we were fogged in and in fish heaven. The black sea bass were slamming 3 oz lead jigs in 45-85 ft of water, from the bottom to suspended. They were just slamming reel or jigged gear. But the BONUS and target fish were lings. The big fish of the day came on a 3 oz jig in 80 ft of water. Hit hard and managed to gt him out of the rocks OK. The fish took several STRONG runs before eventually coming to the net. Once in the boat we got to see a bit of fisherman's luck, as the fish had swallowed the jig deep and by luck the 20 lb mono did not fray. Back at the dock this fished weighed 30 pounds! My biggest by far. We caught 2 more keeper lings and then moved into calmer waters, fishing various holes along the way until Aaron landed his very nice ling in 50 ft of water off of Seal rock. An amazing day of limits for lings and sea bass.

Special thanks to Tom at ExcelFishingCharters.com for getting us into the fish and sharing this amazing fishery with us. Check out his web site and book a trip while the fishing is hot!

I must say, if you're not sure if you get sea sick or not, assume that you do and take precautions BEFORE you even get in the car to head for the boat. Everything was fine until he went out to Duncan Rock. The swells... well.. they were not my friend. I did manage to take a seat and catch a ton of sea bass though. Once we were back in the calmer waters the sickness went away and I was able to hook up with that ling in the photo. This was an excellent trip, and worth every penny for the guide service.

You should! Go look at our other report for the previous day. Same spot, completely different story. Difference? Tom! He put us right on the fish.

Sweet! Now those are some nice fish guys. Do we got video to go with it? I wanna see Aaron chumming the waters over the side of the boat.

There was no chumming going on. I held it together. We do however have a nice video but it might take awhile to get it together. It's the first video we shot in HD and Mike had to upgrade his computer just to edit it.

Hey Mike and Aaron, next time you are up there try using sluggos(i think they are either the 4 inch or 6 inchers, grey and black color) on light football jigheads 1/8 to 3/4oz in or around the kelp beds just off the island out of the main marina, the name of the island starts with a "w" i think. We just kill the sea bass out there doing that. I havent been so lucky to get any nice lings like that though.

Wadda Island (sp) is the name of it. Sluggos sound good - I'vehad luck with all kinds of plastics on sea bass, it's just a matter of finding the hot color sometimes.
