SlimySlab had graciously invited me to join him for the last Tengu derby of the season and with my fishing jones not fully satisfied by my previous outing I excepted. I didn't have much experience with mooching for salmon, but my host showed me the ropes once we got out on the water and it wasn't long before we were into our first fish. Kudos to SlimySlab for moving around to find the bait and putting us onto many fish. I didn't keep an accurate count of how many we brought to the boat but we went through 4 dozen herring in a little over three hours(7:20am - 10:30am) of fishing. A couple fish were decent sized but unfortunately came up just a bit short. The weather may have been cold but the wind was calm and the skies clear which made for some great views of the sun hitting the freshly snow dusted Olympics. The winning fish turned out to be the only legal sized fish caught by the 20 contestants who entered and went a very respectable 11.5lbs. That fish was caught off the Todd Shipyards and most of our fish were caught near the Edgewater. The fish we caught struck anywhere in the water column but the majority were near the bottom and around the 40' mark, this took place during the tail end of the incoming tide.
