Well the weatherman predicted a sunny and nearly windless day and like a fool I believed. I saw bait on the sounder just off the launch and trolled the area for about 1/2 and hour with no luck before heading North to Port Madison. I dropped the crab pots in 45' of water and headed out to deeper water to do some trolling. As the skies were overcast, green glow flasher and army truck sting king were put down and the bite was on almost from the git go! Only problem was the size of the fish with a range of 12" to 18". There were what appeared to be porpoises in the bay which might have accounted for the lack of adult fish hitting my offerings. After about an hour and a half of ramping up the size of my lures a still hooking shakers I pulled the traps, a few undersized dungies and red rocks, and headed to Jeff Head. I again dropped the traps in 45' of water and headed out to do some trolling. More of the same was to be had with a couple of exceptions, the fish were generally bigger and a harbor seal was in the area. The smaller fish I was able to get in quick enough to release, it was the larger fish that weren't so lucky. The seal got 3 of my larger shakers and one that looked to be legal size, about 5 to 6lbs. All of the action took place in 85' to 105' of water and right on the bottom. The wind was getting progressively worse, out of the South of course, and was making handling the boat by myself very difficult. It was going to be a rough ride back! I called it a day and picked up my traps and scored 2 keeper dungies and 1 huge red rock before heading home. All the lures I used seemed to work well today. Green hoochies, army truck sting king and watermelon sting king with a UV coating all fished behind an 11" green-glow hot spot flasher. There was no one checking fish at the ramp when I got back around 2:30pm, the parking lot looked pretty empty. The pic of the blackmouth is one that literally swam into my net to escape the seal chasing it. Friggin' seal, should have brought my wrist rocket along and put a rock between it's eyes!
