I fished area 8-2 and 9 near and south of the Shipwreck this morning with two friends from work. We arrived on the water a bit late due to battery issues so lines weren’t in the water until 7:30 am. Our intent was to be fishing at first light but that didn’t materialize. .
There were lots of boats on the water. It kinda reminded me of past pink salmon seasons. Anyway, we dealt with a few shakers and marked some fish on the finder at between 60 to 100 feet throughout the morning. I had one legitimate strike which took the line off the down rigger but after two quick tugs the fish was gone before I could grab the rod and set the hook.
We stopped fishing at 1:30 pm and in the 6 hours we had lines in the water, we saw only one fish netted and no others played. Back at the Everett marina launch the checker told me he had spoken to anglers in 69 boats and only 12 fish had been caught. Great trip, beautiful weather, sunny and maybe 60 degrees on the water, and some wind in the late morning, but fishing was very poor.
