Well, the derby results are in and I am out. Great weekend to be on the water but the fish gods blessed me with only natives. We fished the mouth of Discovery Bay around Diamond Point using downriggers, flashers and a variety of lures that where green, green, and green. I didn’t make the “board” but I think our boat did better than most. For the amount of fishers the catch rate was bad. It was a case of being at the right place at the right time for those that did catch. We launched at the Gardner ramp every morning and were greeted by at least two volunteer firemen in waders. They were there to assist with the launch and recovery. Since there are no docks the help was well appreciated. Everyone I talked with seemed to enjoy being on the water even if the mornings were a bit cold. The fishing was fantastic but the catching was……….. what it was. I don’t know if I will do it again but the experience was great.
