Heard the chum were in at John's Creek which made a good excuse to go fishing with fishin' buddy Bob Johansen. We drove over to Shelton and launched my boat at 8:00am and were anchored up around John's Creek in 10 minutes. HT was 10:10am and the fish were jumping everywhere. We tried a variety of lures, whole herring, jigs with prawn pieces and only managed to hook one fish (and snagged at that). A total mystery to me as to why I can't catch chums at John's Creek. I use the same methods as Hoodsport but whereas there I can hook lots of chums, at John's Creek I have been skunked three times. But I'm not willing to give up just yet. It's an under-fished area and nicely sheltered. I just need to get some success. At least we didn't get rained on (much). We did notice a lot of bright fish jumping along the east shoreline of Oakland Bay. Hoping they were fresh chums, we tried pulling plugs - and caught a nice 4-5 lb coho. Unfortunately the coho are closed so we stopped targeting these fish and called it a day. So no fish this day.
