Launched boat at 7:00 am this morning. The first half hour or so was calm with mostly cloudy skies but there were sun breaks. Billy Dance and I were both donning our sunglasses to start. However that changed quickly. Water temp was cold the first hour or so. Rain set in around 8:00 am and fell for most of the rest of the morning (sounded like thunder in the far distance, could've been Fort Lewis though...hmmm...maybe both). The water temp changed dramatically warm. The rain along with some wind at times was getting irritating to say the least. We caught and released 4 smallmouth. Not bad size wise. One was a dink the others were average. We tried several spinnerbaits but only one color, size, and blade was working at all. We also tried worming, cranking, jerkbaiting with no results. This was the first time at American Lake. We will come back and try on a drier day. Next time we'll be sure to bring Jimmy Houston with us whom bowed out this morning when we woke him up at 5:30 am to come with us. He was up until 1:00 am. I can only imagine how yesterday would've been when the sun was basking the area.
