Yesterday I was tying some flies for one of my favorite fish, the sea-run cutthroat trout. so I figured this morning I would go out and test a couple of my new flies. I got to Salsbury Point around 7 am and it was cold. 32 degrees outside, and just generally cold water with calm water and the sun just coming up. So I started fishing using my 6/7 wt. fly rod. After 2 hours of seeing and feeling nothing (especially my legs), the tide stopped running as fast and the wind died down a little. I casted out and retrieved with short strips combined with pauses and occasionally a longer strip. When my fly was about 10 or 12 feet away a nice, silver, trout came shooting out of the water by my fly. He didn't quite grab it though. So after a few more anxious casts I was retriving my fly and I saw a flash of silver streak underwater, so I got ready for a strike. And sure enough he did, but I pulled the hook out of his mouth. sfter that action died down again and I went home because of the cold. A great day, though
