Went fishing at O'Dark hundred with my friend Dan. We had gear in the water at 4:45am. Started with a KoneZone green flasher and a cut plug for me at 45 ft. Dan had a large green glow flasher and lg hoochie (gr/gl) with herrign strip. Bait was brined in my secret sauce. At 5:15am it was light enough to see the rod tips so I decied to release my line and check for dogs. As it popped off the release, I felt a "tap, tap" and thought "small dog". Then I felt "pull, pull" and thought "bigger dog". Then the line started running and 30 yards behind the boat a giant spash signaled "FISH ON!" The king immediate took run of the strongest, longest runs I have ever experienced. Fortunately, we had no one close by. I instructed Dan to pull up the gear and we turned the boat around to chase the fish down. I worked her back to the boat and she was actually ready to net. Dan did a fine jump netting the fish and at 5:25am we had our fish in the boat. Later measured at 17 pounds and full of eggs. We fished until 9am and headed in to do the day's chores. Fish checker reported we were the only boat with a fish so far. Great fish!
