Girlfriend Rachel and I set out at 3 PM for a relaxing day on the water off of Redondo. The high tide change was at 7 PM so I knew we would have a couple of hours of "fishing" before we did any "catching". She read her magazine while I worked the downriggers and fishing rods. At 5 PM my rod broke loose from the downrigger with an eerie sound and I looked over to find my pole buried in the water. I grabbed the rod and knew right away it was a king salmon. The reel started to scream and the battle was on. After I saw the king surface near the boat I could tell it was a big king. Rachel took several stabs at netting the fish (I forgot to give her a Netting-101 class before our trip) with no success. I finally grabbed the net from her and with the rod in one hand and the net in the other proceeded to net the 20# bruiser-ette. A nice hen for the dinner table.
