Squids are hitting hard at the Waterman pier in Port Orchard. The average size range from 6 to 9 inches. The pier is crowded during 5 to 8 PM., Which is when the squid seems to be hitting. Most everyone seems to catch their limit of 10 lbs in 1 1/2 to 2 hours of fishing. There is a pier monitor there who makes sure everybody abide by the fishing rules (i.e., number of jigs on line, limit, noise). Most everyone uses the jigs bought from various Asian Markets, but the most active jigs are the blue and pink fluorescent ones. The squids are in various depth of water. The bigger ones seems to be deep, near bottom. If anyone is interested fishing here, the trick is to get there early to get a good spot on the pier. The best areas are the North and South end of the pier.
Good Luck and Happy Squiding.
