I've fished West Point 4 times in the last month, and have boated 11 silvers and 1 humpy total. On Saturday I took my 3 kids with me, and a friend of ours named Ray. I was stoked because I really thought we would get into the silvers thick based on recent rains, and success. The action was slow. Very slow. We caught several shakers, before my 12 year old daughter hooked up and landed about a 6 pound humpy! It was her first fish of the year, so she was happy! Both my 8 year old daughter and 3 year old son have already boated silvers this year! We were trolling on down riggers with small silver hot spots, green squid, and herring strips! Don't know how the fish could resist? I'm guessing all the bait in the water, and the full bright moon on Friday night, had them pretty full, and not showing much if any interest. Anyway, we were trolling our way back toward the launch, when right out in front of the marina, my lower line popped! I set hard, and felt about 20 feet of!
line peeled off of my reel. Then the top rigger popped, (double header?) no....just two lines tangled, and one big mean fish flopping on the surface 50 feet behind the boat! I finally grabbed my fillet knife and cut away the other line, landed a nice 10 pound hen silver! We called a day....but it wont be long, and we'll be back!
