Had a long standing trip planned with my friend Dave and his two boys. I've been trying to get them out for a couple of years. We thought the lake would be open for sockeye, so we planned this trip in May... No lake, so we went for salt.
Dumped the crab pots and headed out to the deeper water off Shilshole to try for resident silvers. Had a hit at 7:40 that didn't hook up. At 8:10 we got another and Ryan caught his first salmon ever, a 3 pounder that hit a Flasher Fly behind a mini Hot Spot at 30 feet. Twenty minutes later we got a hit on an army truck Coyote behind a mini Hot Spot at 40 feet and Sean reeled in the 4 pounder. Before we had it in the boat, we got a hit on the deep pole with a Coho Killer behind a mini Hot Spot at 50 and Dave reeled that one in, though I had to tell him to slow down so I could net Seans's fish and get it out of the net first!
After that, we lost the school and only picked up tons of weeds on our lines. Went south to Dolphin to try for a king, but they had to be off the water early and we didn't get a bite down there. Picked up three keeper crabs in the pots as we headed back in to Shilshole
