Took a break from chores to help neighbor Peter shake out some repairs on his Almar sled before he goes to Sekiu. Fished with his brother Anthony. Launched with the hordes/line at around 6:30. Started straight out from Shilshole and trolled to West Pt. One of my goals was to show Peter how I stack two poles on a downrigger, but I started out with a small black Apex running behind the boat. Anthony ran a dodger, squid and strip. Peter had a dodger and a spoon. I thought the Apex would run a couple of feet down, but I didn't have enough line out and it hit the surface, flipped, and wobbled on the surface. I let it go, and a silver crashed it in about five minutes. About a 5 pounder hit the boat. A little later, we stacked my pole on Anthony's side.. He got a 2-3 pound resident silver to the boat and released it, then got a nice 9 pounder at 85 feet. I switched to a fish flash and army truck Kingfisher spoon. Peter switched to a mini hot spot and GS bucktail. Saw a few nets at West Pt up until 9 or so, then it died.
Went to Jeff Head and saw even less action. I got a 6.5 pounder about noon on the upper pole. Shortly after that, Anthony got another 5 pounder that took the line out of his hands as he tried to hook it on the downrigger. He did a great job recovering the pole and catching up to the fish. Went in at about 1pm. Peter was fishless, but the boat worked as hoped, so he's ready for fun!
