A buddy of mine and I fished the north side of Hat Island Sunday morning. The wind was calm with a little drizzle. Saw about two dozen boats in the "racetrack". We trolled cut plug herring behind Hot Spots off the riggers. No luck.
Later, we motored to the south side of the island and fished with banana weights instead of using the riggers because it was so shallow. Once again no results.
After a while we gave up on blackmouth and tried to hook some bottomfish by mooching herring off the bottom. We did not even get a single bite. Are there any fish out there??
We saw only a few fish caught the whole day.
Hat Island did not live up to all of the hype on Sunday.
