Took advantage of the flat water on Saturday to play bumper boats in the fog with 50 of my closest friends. Launched at Everett and used GPS to navigate out the river. Proceeded at slowest possible planning speed to SE Hat Island. Took a couple of passes there with no luck. Moved to the Race Track and had the same success there weaving in and out of the boats. I ran my Hot Spot and Coyote combo, my bro-in-law Tom ran a Hot Spot and a squid.
We GPS'ed over to Whidbey Island for the tide change hoping for more luck and less boats. About noon a hole opened up in the fog and you could see Langley, the mountains and sunny blue sky! Tom got a 6 pounder at about 12:05 at 115 feet of cable, up off the bottom a ways. We took another pass and I got a 7.5 pounder off his pole at about 12:20. Took care of both fish and had lunch in the glorious sunshine. Saw what looked like 50 boats back over at the Race Track. Buzzed back to Everett with the shades on! What a nice day!
