First I want to thank the people who run this site. I really enjoy reading the fish reports.
Friend of mine called me up and we went out Blackmouth fishing around the Hat Island area. We got the flashers and hoochies into the water about 11:00 AM. The Sun was out and the water was calm. Not really a good day for fishing because it was way too bright and calm...Blackmouth are down deeper because of the bright light.
We trolled around a caught several "Shakers" (12" - 14"). We marked "Baitballs" all over the place. Since we didn't get any "Keepers" yet, we anticipated that we had to wait till late afternoon before the sun gets low before we hook into any "Keepers"..
Sure enough, 3:00 PM, one of the poles comes off the downrigger and "Fish On!". My friend reeled it in and it was a 24" Blackmounth. Marked his card. Back to fishing.
At 3:10 PM, I dropped one of the downrigger back down. As I was dropping the second downrigger down, dang it, the line popped off the clamp! So I started to reel in the line and "HEY...Fish On!!!" The fish hit while I was trying to get it down to a certain depth (secret). That Blackmounth was strange, it came to the surface and was fighting on top rather than down deep. We netted the 27"-er, marked my card, did our "Fisherman's Handshake, brought in the gear and called it a day.
What a GREAT DAY to be out on the water with such good weather and a good friend and "Limit". If you got any questions, you can shoot me an e-mail at chingwa@attachmate.com.
