Took advantage of the early opening to hit the Sequim area for halibut over the weekend. We had two boats out on Saturday. We fished our usual spot for most of the morning and had nothing to show for it. We then tried a new spot in fairly shallow water over near Dallas Bank and Protection Island. My jig hadn't even hit the bottom and I got a strike, which I missed. Jigged a couple of times and it was back. A nice 25 pounder to end the day!
I had to get back to Seattle to run Beat the Bridge, but my brother-in-law stayed over and they fished four guys out of the other boat on Sunday. Tom landed a 69" halibut estimated at 172 pounds. The folks from the marina took a picture of it, so we've got proof! It took three guys to lift it for the picture. It's the fourth large halibut we've gotten from the Sequim area in the last three years! I guess I should have stayed over! Needless to say... I'll be back!
