Was taking notice of the Washington State Cougars dismantling
of the Oregon Ducks on Saturday when I got a call from Olsons
store out at Sekiu. My brother in-law had been there since Friday
afternoon limiting in 1/2 an hour both days once he was rigged up and
in the water....So made the trip out there with my daughter and her
buddy Sunday morning with a quick stop in P.A. for some munchies on the way.....Out in the water a little later than norm (10am)and cruised out towards Diamond Head right into a fog bank beyond several
other boats due east.. within the first ten minutes we had our first fish a 7lb native silver so got him back in the water asap and set the downrigger back to 120ft (fishing 2 poles down one flasher and purple hoochie the other flasher and green hoochie) about 3 minutes
later up popped the downrigger from the other side. This time it was
my 11 year old daughters turn to play out the fish...she did a great
job and landed a fat 10 lb hatchery fish....nice trend, fish getting
bigger....about a 15 minute lull then turned the boat sw and pop goes
the downrigger, this time it was my daughters friends turn to test her
skills and was asking for a little help from my daughter so they worked together and nailed a nice 14lb buck (that was her first salmon ever)...we stayed out for another 2 hrs and ended up with 7 keepers and releasing 5 or 6 natives.
