Got to the lake about sunrise. Still a bit of thin ice here and there on the lake but open enough to launch my Kayak. Started trolling mepps black fury. At about 715 hooked in to a 20lb mackinaw. Put him back after the pictures. Wind was blowing the little bit of ice left towards the launch so had to leave shortly after.

You also have to think about how fat mackinaw can get.

Congrats on the Mackinaw from a kayak. Not meaning to rain on your parade, but if you look at the 3rd report down on this link to Deer lake reports, you will see a 17 lb. Mack.

I've seen a lot of deer lake Mack. Grew up fishing it with my grandfather from our cabin. That said. You mentioned it was real windy. So my thought is the fish had a lot of wind draw adding about 13 pounds. ??
